by Major Johnny Robinson, the
Criminal Investigation Division is responsible for the investigative
follow up on all incident reports generated by the Uniform Patrol
Division and to ensure that every report written receives the proper
case closure. The Detectives in the Criminal Investigation Division
work diligently to solve crimes reported to the Uniform Division.
The Criminal Investigation Division is subdivided into two sections:
Major Felony Unit and the Property Crimes Unit.
Detectives assigned to the Property Crimes Unit investigate such
acts as burglary, auto theft, financial transaction fraud, and identity
theft. The Property Crimes Unit is led by Captain Joe Ricci.
Detectives assigned to the Major Felony Unit investigate armed robberies,
murder, aggravated assault, rape, family violence and investigations
into reported sexual assaults and exploitation of children.
Detectives assigned to the Major Felony Unit also proactively
participate in the Georgia Bureau of Investigation's Internet Crimes
Against Children (ICAC) Task Force.
The
Major
Felony Unit
is led by Captain Richard Gandee.
The Crime Scene Investigations
Unit and the Property and Evidence
Unit of the Clayton County Police Department are also under
the control of the Criminal Investigation Division.
The
Property and Evidence Unit is responsible for the logging and secure
storage of thousands of pieces of evidence submitted to the unit
each year by officers of the Clayton County Police Department. The
Property and Evidence Unit is located on the ground level of Police
Headquarters at 7911 N. McDonough Street, Jonesboro, Georgia and
is open Monday - Friday from 8:00 AM until 5:00 PM.
